Whatever the defects of American universities may be, they disseminate no prejudices; rear no bigots; dig up the buried ashes of no old superstitions; never interpose between the people and their improvement; exclude no man because of his religious opinions; above all, in their whole course of study and instruction, recognise a world, and a broad one too, lying beyond the college walls.

I am surprised at all the positive comments. I am not very fond of American arrogance (invading Iraq without UN sanction, ignoring the Geneva convention on torture, etc.). I also do not like the way all Americans believe that the USA is the best country in the world! Especially since they know so few other countries. Finally, I don't like the power religion has in the USA. I would have written some positive things, too - but everyone else seems to be doing that, so I don't need to.
