Whatever the defects of American universities may be, they disseminate no prejudices; rear no bigots; dig up the buried ashes of no old superstitions; never interpose between the people and their improvement; exclude no man because of his religious opinions; above all, in their whole course of study and instruction, recognise a world, and a broad one too, lying beyond the college walls.

I just returned from America, yesterday. And I must say, the negative or positive way we may (individually) think of the U.S.A is absolutely depending on the grade of culture (had you ever been there? had you travelled throughout? talked with, met Americans, have friends who live there?) that has been taught to us, and in some countries this teaching has been hate.

America is great, different, progressive and listening. "The promised land" is not Israel. It is your country and you Americans...where hope, equity and freedom had evoluted in this great empire it represents, right now.

But in such a rich country. the poverty, and not only the economical poverty but also the educational one, is still so evident. I think all you Americans should really think about solving the problems in your great country. I also believe you are helping every day to create more poverty around the world instead of helping it. Donations are not the solution to this global problem; it is the politics of trade of your governments, and the way the media unfortunately keeps informing, "educating," and profiting from you without any respect--because you don't really know what is going on, and you've been too busy (all you hard workers), and don't really go in search for the true or better information. There are of course things I find bad or let's better say unneccesary, like the ammounts and quantities of food people eat and get. Why such a big portions? Obesity is a problem in this country. Why such large cars? In cities like New York, it is not really neccesary if you don't need to travel for miles with your whole family? And why if you want to get some decent school education for your kids do you have to pay so much money? Why is that there is not mercy for the poor people? Yes there are meals and houses almost for free available for people in these situations but the health care (for the not insured) has not mercy. So I think Americans should go back where they began--DEMOCRACY! I love and respect your country, and I do really believe you should appreciate and take more care of yourselves in the matters I mention above and in your emotional and spiritual lives. Not everything has to be big or be based on money.
